Deeper

From the beginning of time (“did God really say…”, Gen 3:1) to the 21st century skeptic, there have been questions about the truthfulness and reliability of God’s word. In recent years, more and more questions about been raised about the reliability of the gospels. As believers we need to understand the reasons for the hope within us so as to have an answer to those who might ask (1Pet 3:15), and nowhere is that more important than in dealing with questions about the life of Jesus.

This Fall we intend to go “Deeper.” That’s the name for the Thursday night event that will feature in-depth discussions for those interested in learning more about the life of Jesus, the history, composition and interpretation of the gospels, and their reliability as viewed especially through the prism of the third gospel (Luke). The class will be taught by Brent Kinman (ThM, Dallas Theological Seminary; PhD, Cambridge University), author of several journal articles and two books, and current Senior Pastor at Heritage Church.

These meetings offer the opportunity for a lot of give and take, with questions fielded at every turn alongside a detailed exploration of Luke’s gospel. They are suitable for everyone from high school students to seminarians to those simply interested in going a lot ‘deeper’ into the New Testament than time permits in a Sunday sermon or small group. Classes begin on September 1st at 7 pm in the library at Heritage Church. Bring a pen and paper, a Bible, questions, and a good sense of humor. There’s no homework, no embarrassing questions from the leader, and no textbook other than the Bible. As the Spirit leads we’ll also pray and perhaps even sing. If you’re not sure this is for you, come to the first event and check it out!
